Graduation Write-ups 

Seniors: Get your Graduation write-ups to Mrs. Faust by Friday, April 13. We need these for the KCHE Radio talk show next week and for the Graduation section for the local papers. Check your email and follow directions!


Prom Dinner 

Those of you attending the prom dinner need to see Mrs. Poeckes to arrange for your dinner time and seating arrangements. Please see her by Friday, April 13.


Understanding Financial Aid 

To help you understand the financial aid process, the high school guidance office has invited the Iowa College Access Network® (ICAN) to make a presentation on financial aid for juniors. This is the ideal opportunity to get answers to your questions about financial aid. It will be held at 2:30 in the East Gym on Friday, April 13. All juniors will be attending.

College Planning 

Whether you’ve been preparing for college for a while or just thinking about the possibility, there’s a lot to do before you graduate high school and take your next steps. Many important steps should be taken during the last few years of high school. This is when you begin to wonder exactly what you should do next and how to go about it. Iowa College Access Network will be doing a presentation in the East Gym on Fri, April 13 at 1:30 to all sophomores.


Movie Special! 

All South O'Brien students have free admission to the movie "I Can Only Imagine" playing in Paullina this weekend. Simply tell the ticket seller and concession people that you are FCA and they will give you free admission, free pop corn, and a free pop!



The ACT test at the Sheldon location has been cancelled for tomorrow, Saturday, April 14th. We will keep you informed if we hear anything from the ACT testing at the Orange City location.


No Library During Lunch 

The library will not be available for socializing during lunch until further notice.
If you want to read or have work to do, please talk with Mrs. De Zeeuw.


HS Football Player Meeting 

HS Football players please meet with Coach Fuhrman today in the ICN room during homeroom.


8th Grade Hearing Screenings 

8th grade hearing screenings will take place in the nurses office on Wednesday, April 11 in the morning. Individual hearing screenings will take 5 minutes or less.

Paullina Can Cage 

We will begin to clean the can cage in Paullina after school on Wednesday. Many hands make light work!


Cross Country Summer Info 

Coach Lichter will be in the commons during home room to go over summer Cross Country information. Anyone in grades 7-11 interested in XC is encouraged to come.

ThunderCat Soccer 

7th - 12th Soccer
Come join the ThunderCats soccer team. Practices will be in the Primghar Elementary School Gym starting today Wednessday, 04/4. Practices will be in the Primghar gym after school Mon., Wed., and Fri. Once weather permits practice will be on the Primghar futball field. If you need any information see Mrs. Wester.

Last Day for Prom Dinner Tickets 

Today is the last day to buy prom dinner tickets. No tickets will be sold after lunch time today.

Please pick up your Makerspace projects in the library before Easter break.
Lots of nice projects--make sure yours doesn't get tossed or recycled!


Prom Dinner Tickets 

Juniors and Seniors- Prom dinner tickets will be on sale Monday through Thursday. During homeroom the tickets will be sold in Mrs. Poeckes' room. During lunch time the tickets will be sold in the commons. Tickets must be paid for at the time of the sale. No tickets will be sold after March 29.


Guess How Many Candies are in the Jar 

Stop by the library to Guess How Many Candies are in the Jar--Easter Edition! 3 jars of candy are up for grabs. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, March 28. Good luck!

Prom Servers 


The junior class will be inviting some of the sophomores to be waiters and waitresses at prom.

If you do NOT want this job, or you are attending prom as a guest of a junior/senior, please let Mrs. Poeckes know before Easter break.


West Ballroom 

Please place all basketballs in a black wire cage when returning them to the West gym ball room after homeroom and lunch. Do NOT leave them on the floor. This will help in making the balls last longer! Thank you!


Track Start 

All Jr Hi students are encouraged to go out for track. Things learned in track will benefit you for your entire lifetime! Track will begin on Tuesday, April 3. Please have all physicals completed, signed, and turned into Mrs. Reichle in the high school office if you were not out for a previous jr hi sport. Come to the East gym after school on Tuesday, April 3, with appropriate practice attire and ready to practice. See Mr. Miller, Mr. DeBoer, or Mr. Brasser with any questions.


Wrestling Awards Night 

Awards night for the wrestling team will be on Thursday, March 22 at 6:30 in the Sheldon High School commons. Please bring any uniforms not yet turned in to Sheldon on this night.

War Eagle Academic Banquet 

A reminder for those invited to attend: The War Eagle Academic Banquet is tomorrow, March 20, at 6:30 pm in the high school gymnasium at Trinity Christian High School in Hull.

Writing Champions 

After placing in the NW Iowa Regional Competition, the following students have been recognized at the state level writing competition.
Short Story Contest Champions - freshman Alexus Babb and senior Dawson Weathers. Alexus and Dawson will be honored at the Young Author's Celebration at Iowa State University in June.
Poetry Contest - senior Paige Ginger placed 3rd.


Chute Camp 

7th and 8th grade girls interested in a 2 day Chute Offensive Skills Camp this Summer can pick up a registration form from Ms. Dreckman.

All State Bound 

Congratulations to Dawson Weathers for being nominated as a performer for Radio News and his Prose piece for All State.

Coach Matthews has cancelled the pizza party scheduled for tonight and rescheduled it for Thursday, March 8.

Model UN will meet before school on Wed and Fri, March 7 and 9.

Blood Drive 

Life Serve will be here on Tuesday, March 6 from 9am-1pm for a blood drive. Sign up in the office for a donation time. Your donation could save a life, so to thank you for donating your name will be put in a drawing for fabulous prizes.

You must be 16 to donate blood and if you are under 18 you must have a signed parent permission form.


Breakfast Club 

Breakfast Club start on Wednesday, March 7 at 645 am in the West gym. Boys and girls, young and old are invited to improve their skills!

Jazz Choir Wins Emmetsburg Extravaganza 

Congrats to the South O'Brien Jazz Choir! They placed first in 1A at the Emmetsburg Extravaganza Jazz and Show Choir competition.

Congratulations to Jack Farquhar on placing 2nd at the Western Iowa Regional Science Fair in Sheldon this past Saturday. He earned at trip to the Young Genius Olympiad in New York this coming summer! Way to go Jack!

Jazz Ensemble 

The South O'Brien Jazz Ensemble has been selected from the wild card list to participate in the Iowa Jazz Championships. This is the 11th selection for South O'Brien since 2004 and the 4th consecutive. The Jazz Championships will be held Thursday, April 5 at Iowa State. Congratulations!


Team Meeting 

8-12 BBB team meeting in Coach Yates' room after school today.

If you need a ride home, one will be provided. Bring a binder, paper and something to write with.

Volleyball Volunteers 

Winter League Volleyball is looking for volleyball volunteers willing to help keep score and officiate 8th grade games at the high school gym on Sundays in March (4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th). Please get a hold of Coach Wassom ASAP if you are interested!


Blood Drive Volunteers 

Due to conflicts the student council is in need of help at the blood drive on Tuesday. If you have free time on Tuesday (Day 3) and you are willing to work at the blood drive, please see Mrs. Poeckes a.s.a.p.

Golf Meeting 

Boys and girls interested in going out for golf need to attend a meeting on Monday, February 26 during homeroom in Mr. DeYager's room. *Note: this has been postponed due to the early out.


Menu Change 

The FFA will grill hamburgers for lunch on Thursday, February 22nd. The Chile/Chicken Noodle soup meal planned for that day will be served Monday, February 26th. (no burger & fries on the 26th)
