Job Opportunities 

Seniors - Are you looking for a job right out of high school because you are not interested in going to college right now? Stop in to Mrs. Flynn's office and inquire about local opportunities.

Other students - other summer job opportunities are posted on the Guidance bulletin Board or see Mrs. Flynn.


Speed, Agility, & Quickness Camp 

Due to a generous donation from the South O’Brien Booster Club, the Speed, Agility, & Quickness camp scheduled for this summer will be free of charge. The Booster Club has also provided all the equipment necessary to put on the camp. The camp will be starting on June 5 and will conclude on July 19.
All Athletes entering grades 7-12 are encouraged to attend.

**Please note: If your child has COMPLETED the 6th grade this year they WILL be eligible for Speed Camp this summer. Forms were sent home with each 6th grade student on May 15th.

Summer Weight Room 

The schedules for the South O'Brien Summer Weight Room Program are available on the Athletic Booster Club page of the school website.
The program runs from June 5 to July 26.
All athletes are encouraged to participate.


JH Softball Manager 

The junior high softball team is looking for a manager. If interested, see Mr. Cole.


Baseball & Softball practice 

Mr. Cole will be driving Bus #10 after school for JH baseball and softball players. THIS IS NEW!

Jr Hi Track 

All Jr Hi track athletes: You need to get your track sweats and uniform to Mr. Brasser ASAP. You will be charged if they are not turned in.


Help @ Cemetery on Friday 

Help is needed (minimum of 6 students) this Friday from 9 a.m. - Noon at the Paullina cemetary with trimming tree branches to prepare for Memorial Day Weekend. Let the office know if you are willing to help. Great community service project for scholarships and other award applications--and just plain being a great citizen.

Lost and Found 

We are missing 3 pieces of artwork that were last seen in the commons last Wednesday. Be on the lookout for these items and if you have any info on their whereabouts please contact the office. We would like to return them to their creator!

VB Players 

All volleyball players in grades 7-11 meet in Mrs. Roskamp's room at 8:00 A.M. on Friday morning for a meeting.


Cheer/Dance Try-Outs 

Second Chance Cheer & Dance try-outs will be held Thursday, May 31st from 4:00-6:30 PM in the west gym.

Anyone who has not tried out for cheer and dance and would like to be considered to be part of the team for next year is encouraged to attend. If you don't try out, you cannot be on the team. See Mrs. Mattheis if you have an questions!

Speech Meeting 

Speech meeting Thursday during homeroom for anyone interested in Speech next year! It will be held in Mrs. Wester's room. If you cannot make it to the meeting, go see Mrs. Wester for the information.


Locker Clean Out 

It's not too early to begin taking all your extra stuff home! Plan ahead and bring extra bags to carry it all!
Official Locker Clean out is Thursday, May 24, during homeroom. You may leave things that you will need Friday but should remove all tape and trash.

Any items left in your locker will be donated or thrown away.

Cheer/Dance Meeting 

There will be a cheer and dance meeting in Mrs. Mattheis' room during homeroom on Wednesday, May 23rd. Anyone who tried out and anyone who would be interested in trying out for cheer and/or dance next year - please attend!

Agriscience Fair Homeroom Meeting 

Homeroom meeting Wednesday for FFA members interested in conducting Agriscience Fair projects.


HS Girls Basketball HR Meeting 

There will be an 8-12 HS Girls basketball meeting in Miss Dreckman's room during Homeroom, Tuesday, May 22nd.


FFA Bee Manager Homeroom Meeting 

Homeroom meeting today (Tuesday) for FFA members interested in becoming a Bee Manager.


Softball Belts 

If any 8th - 12th grade softball players need a belt, they are in Coach Struve's room for $5.


HS & JH Cross Country Info Meeting 

Coach Lichter will be at the school, Friday the 18th during home room to go over some summer running plans with the Cross Country team. Current runners and anyone interested in coming out for XC are encouraged to come.


If you see Shelby E today, congratulate her! She won a Casey's gift certificate for the social media challenge at the O'Brien County Career Day!


Student Body President and Class Voting 

Congratulations to Richard Nyunt who will serve as student body president for the 2018-19 school year.

Voting for class president will take place on Thursday and voting for student council representatives will take place on Friday. Freshmen will vote during Mr. Yates' class, sophomores in Mrs. Poeckes' class and juniors in Mrs. Faust's class.


Softball Scrimmage 

Come out to Swanson tonight for the high school softball scrimmage at 5:3o! First game Monday at home vs. HMS!

8th grade homeroom meeting 

There is an important homeroom meeting for all 8th graders today, Thursday, in the East gym.


Online Textbooks 

The following students still need to return their textbooks from online classes: Isabelle and Alexis. I will not sign senior check out slips until these are returned.


Junior Ushers 

Attention Junior Ushers: Some assignments have changed so please stop in the office to pick up a new form.

Softball T-shirt Order Forms 

Softball t-shirt order forms are available in the office or with Coach Struve in the art room or on the website. Orders are due Tuesday May 15th.


Student Council Sign Up 

8th-11th grade Students:
If you are interested in a leadership position for the 2018-19 school year, please see Mrs. Poeckes by Monday, May 14 to sign up.

Positions include Student Body President, Class President and Student Council Member.



JH students will need their band instruments and music for dress rehearsal during 7th period on Monday.


JH Softball pitchers and catchers 

If you are a pitcher or catcher and would like some pre-season work, please contact Mr. Cole to arrange times to meet.


Primghar Roller Skating 

The LAST night of roller skating for the year will be this Saturday night in Primghar from 7:30-9:30 PM. It will then be closed for the summer (until the end of October.)

Krispy Kreme Donut info from the PTO 

REMINDER from the South O'Brien Elementary PTO!

Remember to pick up your Krispy Kreme donuts this Saturday morning, May 12, at the O’Brien County Fairgrounds from 8:30-10:30.

We will have coffee and individual donuts for sale that morning, while you’re watching the soccer games!

Summer Contest Sign-Up 

FFA Members (Junior High and High School)--Many opportunities this summer to compete in a variety of Career Development Events (contests).

Prior experience is not necessary--but a willingness to put forth your best effort, strive for improvement, and have some fun.

IHSMA Large Group Festival 

Congratulations to the High School Band and Choir for their outstanding performances at the IHSMA Large Group Festival last Friday night at Kingsley-Pierson High School. For the second year in a row, both groups earned Division I (Superior) Ratings.



ATTENTION SENIORS - Make sure and let Mrs. Flynn know of any scholarships that you have received so that you can be recognized for them on Awards Day. Please let her know by Weds, May 9.


Athletic Achievement Award 

Seniors, I know we do not have all of the applications for the Athletic Achievement Award. All students who have earned 10 or more letters in their high school career will receive the award. The applications are in the office. Please turn them in to Mr. DeZeeuw as soon as possible.


Online Textbooks 

Textbooks for online classes are due back in the office by Weds, May 9. If they are not returned you will be charged for them.


Softball meeting 

There will be a meeting for junior high softball players in the band room during homeroom on Wednesday. We will discuss what you need for the first day of practice.

ACT Registration 

The registration deadline for the June 9 ACT is Friday, May 4. Registration materials and practice test booklets are available in Mrs. Flynn's office.


Youth Baseball Grades 4-6 

Registration forms for the 2018 Wolverine Youth Baseball Clinic are available. Parents can find the form on our schools Facebook page. You can also pick up a form from Mr. Gloden if needed. This is for boys in grades K-6. These forms are due back by May 4th!

Also: The last day for the Youth Baseball League will be April 29th! (Grades 4-6)

Blood Drive 

Life Serve will be at school on Friday, May 4 for a blood drive from 9am-1pm.
Sign up in the office to donate blood if you are at least 16 years old. Please remember to have a parent permission form signed and returned if you are under 18.
All students who donate/attempt to donate will have their names entered in a drawing for prizes.

Can Cage Cleanup

Youth Baseball League Grades 4-8 

South O'Brien Baseball Program
The South O'Brien Baseball program will be running Youth Baseball League during the months of March and April. There is no registration or cost to attend. We simply offer opportunities for baseball players in 4th - 8th grade to improve their hitting and throwing. During March, it will be held Sat mornings from 9-10 a.m. Our 1st mtg. will be March 10. During the month of April, we'll meet on Sundays from 3-4 p.m.

Junior Golf 2018 

2nd-5th & 6th-8th Grade Junior Golf 2018 registration is now available. There are 2 ways to register this year! You may go online to register or paper copies will be available in the school offices. Grades 6th-8th will have a separate form. This is new this year so spread the word! Cost: $20 which includes t-shirt and prizes! No child will be turned down from this program. IHSMA Solo/Small Ensemble 

Saturday, April 28, the music department held a make-up for the IHSMA Solo/Small Ensemble Festival originally scheduled for April 14. Thirteen Band and Choir students performed in 18 separate events, all of them receiving a Division I (Superior) or Division II (Excellent) rating.

Additionally, the trio of Molly Lenz, Nikki Feltman, and Shala Boardman received a perfect score on their ballot and were selected to sing at an Outstanding Performance Recital at Iowa State University on Wednesday, May 9.

Earned a Division I Rating on Instrumental Solo: Shala Boardman (Alto Saxophone), Nikki Feltman (Flute), Jade Goebel (Trumpet)

Earned a Division I Rating on Vocal Solo: Levi Feltman, Nikki Feltman, Jade Goebel, Molly Lenz, Gage Rus, Christian Sage, Ethan Strubbe

Earned a Division II Rating on Vocal Solo: Abby Boardman, Arianna Frerk, Isaac Thomas, Grant Wagner

Sutherland Auxiliary Scholarship 

Seniors, I will accept the Sutherland Auxiliary Scholarship applications that were due Friday through today.


Color Guard! 

If you are interested in color guard (aka flags) for marching band in the fall, talk with Mr. Cole or a high school band member. Enrollment will be limited to the first 8 interested students.


Course Registration 

There are many students who have not registered for classes yet and/or do not have parent signatures on their registration forms and 4-year plans. Mr. Bruder and Mrs. Flynn will be moving forward by the middle of this week with scheduling classes. It is imperative that students get their registration finalized before then, so you can get all of the classes that you want. Please get your forms signed and see Mrs. Flynn as soon as possible.


Baseball Meeting 

There will be a baseball meeting for all 9-12 baseball players in Mr. Hansen's room during homeroom on Friday, April 27th.


College Rep 

There will be a college rep here from Iowa Lakes Community College on Fri, April 27 at 1:15. Juniors and seniors interested in visiting with him should sign up outside Mrs. Flynn's office.


KCHE Class Day 

KCHE will be on campus at South O'Brien on Friday, Apr 27 from 9:00 - 11:00 am for Class Days. Make sure and tune in to hear all of the seniors talk about their plans after graduation. Also call in and talk to them and make requests for your favorite tunes!

JH FACS and Art Projects 

Please pick up your pillowcases and art projects from Hex 5 if you have not already done so.

No Primghar Youth Soccer Saturday, April 21st! Thank you.



April 20 is the last day to buy a 2018 high school yearbook. Go to or bring a check to the high school office made to South O'Brien Yearbook. Cost is $50.



Juniors/Seniors and their guests who are planning to attend after prom NEED to get their signed parent permission slips turned in to Mrs. Yates as soon as possible.


KCHE Class Day 

KCHE Class Day has been rescheduled to Friday, April 27 from 9-11 am. Please tune in to hear all about our seniors and their plans for the future. The radio station will be broadcasting live from the school. Each student will be reading their own bio on the air.

O'Brien County Career Day 

All sophomores will get the opportunity to participate in O'Brien County Career Day on Friday, April 20. They will be traveling to various businesses in the county to see opportunities for local employment and listen to a keynote speaker during lunch at NWICC.



If you have borrowed a laptop (green label) from Mrs. Fish's room, please return it.

Hex 5 Art Students 

All 7th graders who were in the last art hex (hex 5) need to come to the art room during homeroom today to pick up projects.

FFA Banquet 

Mr. Kumm NEEDS to know TODAY if you will be coming to the FFA Banquet on Saturday, April 28th.

We need to get food figured out since Mr. Kumm will be gone Monday & Tuesday next week.

Juniors and Seniors, If you want to walk in Grand March you need to sign up in the office by Thursday, April 19. Please, don't forget. Only those who sign up in advance will be able to go through Grand March.

Softball Jacket Order 

8th - 12th grade softball players who would like to order a softball jacket with your name on it need to stop by the art room to pick up an order form. Orders are due Tuesday April 17th.



In the event of a late start due to weather tomorrow, Wednesday 4/18/2018 we will NOT have an early dismissal. School will run until 3:30 and there will be no professional development.
